Wembley Misses Out on 2029 Champions League Final to Barcelona's Nou Camp

Uefa has selected Barcelona's upgraded Nou Camp to host the 2029 Champions League final, bypassing Wembley Stadium. This decision was announced on Tuesday.

  • Uefa confirmed Barcelona's Nou Camp will host the 2029 Champions League final.
  • Wembley Stadium in London was also a contender but was not chosen.
  • The 2028 Champions League final will be held at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena.

Wembley Stadium will not host the 2029 Champions League final, as Uefa has confirmed Barcelona's upgraded Nou Camp as the chosen venue. The decision was announced on Tuesday by the governing body.

This marks a significant win for Barcelona, coming a year before Spain is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco. The Nou Camp's reconstruction, which includes unfinished top tiers and a roof, is currently ongoing.

In other news from Uefa's executive committee, the 2028 Champions League final has been confirmed for Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. This will be the Allianz Arena's second time hosting the final in just three years, having also hosted the 2025 edition.

Wembley has a rich history of hosting the event, having staged it eight times overall since the European Cup began, including in 2011, 2013, and 2024. This season's final is scheduled to take place at Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano stadium.

Why this matters: The decision provides Barcelona with a major showcase event ahead of Spain co-hosting the 2030 World Cup.
