Westminster City Council has stated it is "exploring all options" for the future of Banksy's 'Blinded by the Flag' statue in central London. The artwork, depicting a man with his face covered by a flag, was erected at Waterloo Place on 29 April.
Discussions regarding the statue's future took place over the summer, but no formal decision has been made. The council, which describes itself as the statue's custodian, confirmed it has been in contact with the street artist's team. Banksy owns the copyright, but the council bears the cost of ensuring the statue's safety.
The council has spent nearly £60,000 on safety barriers, administration, and a security guard for the artwork, according to a Freedom of Information request from August. The statue's future is expected to be discussed at an upcoming cabinet meeting.
