Heavy rain and strong winds are set to batter parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland this week, with the Met Office warning of challenging conditions ahead for drivers and pedestrians.
A band of persistent rainfall will sweep across western areas, bringing the heaviest downpours to Scotland's western Highlands and much of Northern Ireland. Motorists face difficult driving conditions as accumulating rain creates surface water hazards on roads.
England and Wales will see more mixed conditions. Western regions including Cumbria and Lancashire can expect significant rainfall, whilst eastern and southern areas should stay largely dry despite blustery conditions. Welsh coastal areas will bear the brunt of rain and stronger winds compared to inland eastern parts.
Winds could reach 30-40 mph in exposed areas, making temperatures feel much colder than the mild 8°C to 12°C range forecast. The wind chill factor means residents should wrap up warm despite the relatively temperate conditions for this time of year.
The Met Office advises allowing extra journey time, particularly for drivers in affected areas. Motorists should watch for surface water and debris, whilst pedestrians should take extra care near coasts and high ground where gusts will be strongest.
No severe weather warnings are currently in place, but forecasters continue monitoring conditions closely. The public are urged to check the latest Met Office updates as the weather system develops across the country.
