Heavy rain and winds of up to 50mph will batter western parts of the UK this week, with the Met Office warning of potential flooding and travel disruption across multiple regions.
Scotland and Northern Ireland face the worst conditions, with widespread heavy rainfall expected to create challenging driving conditions and localised flooding. Wind gusts could exceed 50mph in exposed areas, whilst temperatures will range from 7°C to 11°C across both nations.
England's North West and South West regions are likely to see the heaviest downpours, with some localised flooding possible in areas already waterlogged from recent rainfall. Coastal areas could experience winds reaching 40-50mph, though eastern parts should remain generally drier despite scattered showers. Temperatures across England will hover between 9°C and 13°C.
Wales will also endure a wet and windy spell, particularly in western and central areas where significant rainfall accumulation raises the risk of surface water flooding. Coastal regions face winds potentially reaching 45mph, with temperatures between 8°C and 12°C.
The Met Office has urged drivers to prepare for difficult conditions, including reduced visibility and standing water on roads. Residents in affected areas should secure loose garden furniture and outdoor items before the weather deteriorates.
The unsettled period follows a relatively mild autumn start across much of the UK. Whilst no severe weather warnings have been issued at the highest level, the combination of rain on saturated ground and strong winds could cause localised problems and travel delays.
