The UK's Wildlife Trusts are working to raise £30 million to acquire the Rothbury estate in Northumberland, north-east England. The land, which has been under the ownership of the same family for 700 years, has now been put up for sale.
Katy Barke, head of nature recovery for Northumberland Wildlife Trust, highlighted the area's significance. Professor Sam Turner, an archaeologist at Newcastle University, is researching the land's historical use, which will help shape the nature recovery strategy for the site.
Rosie Pearce, a farm liaison officer, indicated that the project could introduce more wildlife-friendly farming practices to the estate.
