A woman who stabbed two 10-year-old boys has been detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital. Ann Marie McEvoy, 45, of Church Walk, Colchester, was sentenced to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday.
Armed police found the injured boys after forcing entry into a flat in Friskney in November 2022. McEvoy was tasered and arrested at the scene. She pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder in July.
The court heard that McEvoy suffers from schizoaffective disorder. Dr Tim Rogers, a consultant forensic psychiatrist, stated that the offences would not have occurred if McEvoy had been mentally well, and that she may require treatment for the remainder of her life.
Judge Simon Hirst said he was satisfied that a hospital order was the best way to protect the public. Doctors and the Secretary of State will determine if and when she can be released. A restraining order also prevents McEvoy from contacting the children.
