Woman dies after crash during police pursuit near Stratford-upon-Avon

A 62-year-old woman critically injured in a collision involving a police pursuit near Stratford-upon-Avon has died.

  • The woman's Ford Puma collided with an Audi A3 being pursued by Warwickshire Police on the A439 Warwick Road.
  • The 19-year-old driver of the Audi also died at the scene.
  • The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation into the incident.

A 62-year-old woman who was critically injured in a road traffic incident on Monday, 24 August, has died. Her Ford Puma was involved in a collision with an Audi A3 on the A439 Warwick Road near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.

The Audi A3 was being pursued by Warwickshire Police officers after its driver failed to stop when requested. The 19-year-old driver of the Audi died at the scene of the crash.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has begun an investigation into the incident. Warwickshire Police has referred the crash to the watchdog due to a death occurring following police contact.

The pursuit began shortly before 17:30 BST on Birmingham Road. The crash occurred approximately 15 minutes later. Another woman, a passenger in the Ford, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, while injuries to another patient from the Ford were not believed to be serious.
