A 22-year-old woman was killed and five people were injured in a shooting that reportedly occurred at a rave in northern Switzerland. Police confirmed the woman died at the scene, while the injured, four men and a woman aged between 24 and 27, are in hospital with injuries described as ranging from minor to severe.

The incident took place at an event at a horse racing track in Aarau, near Zurich, overnight into Sunday. A rave was reportedly being held in the area during the early hours.

Police stated that the identity of the perpetrator and any possible motives are unknown, as are the exact circumstances of the shooting. Local media reported that police were alerted to the incident around 02:30 local time (01:30 BST).

An area around the racing track, the town's swimming pool, and sports field has been cordoned off, with the public advised to stay away. A large number of officers have been deployed, including beyond Aarau as a precaution, according to Aargau Cantonal Police. An AFP journalist reported seeing armed officers deployed on the highway up to 30km from the site.

Police have asked witnesses to submit photographs and video from the scene. Images from Aarau on Sunday showed a heavy police presence, including an armoured vehicle blocking a road and armed police patrolling streets.
