A woman who had to raise more than £100,000 to fund her stem cell treatment is calling for NHS England to change its rules on transplants. Faith Hinitt, 28, from Retford, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in October 2023.
Ms Hinitt received her first stem cell transplant on the NHS in September 2024. However, she was refused a second treatment when her cancer returned within a year, leading her to fundraise online.
She is now supporting a national campaign, launched by three charities, for NHS England to review its policy. Under the current NHS England policy, introduced in 2017, patients who relapse less than 12 months after their first stem cell transplant are not eligible for a second.
NHS England stated it has commissioned "an independent evidence review into the case for a second allogeneic stem cell transplant."
