Heavy rain and winds of up to 50mph will batter Worcestershire this weekend as the Met Office issues yellow weather warnings across the county from late Friday through Sunday morning.
Meteorologists predict rainfall of 30-50mm across most areas, with some spots potentially seeing even higher amounts over 24 hours. The downpours, falling on already saturated ground, raise concerns over surface water flooding and overwhelmed drainage systems. Strong inland gusts reaching 40-50mph will accompany the wet weather.
The weather system will bring varied conditions across the UK. Worcestershire and much of the West Midlands face the worst of the rain and wind, whilst the South West sits under similar warnings. Scotland and Northern Ireland will see mixed showers and brighter spells with strong winds, while Wales expects significant rainfall, particularly in western areas.
Worcestershire residents should clear drains, secure garden furniture and check travel plans before journeys. Driving conditions will prove challenging due to standing water and poor visibility. Despite mild temperatures of 8-12 degrees Celsius, wind chill will make conditions feel considerably cooler.
Emergency services and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely. The Environment Agency has urged residents to check flood risks and sign up for local flood warnings. Whilst widespread severe flooding isn't anticipated, localised impacts remain likely.
The unsettled weather stems from an Atlantic low-pressure system that has gained strength - typical for this time of year. The system should clear eastwards by Sunday afternoon, bringing slightly more settled but still breezy conditions into next week.
