Matt Cross, the current World Conker Champion from Bourne, Lincolnshire, has shared insights into his preparation as he readies himself to defend his title this Sunday. The competition will be held at the Shuckburgh Arms in Southwick, Northamptonshire.
Cross hopes to achieve a consecutive victory, a feat not accomplished since 1976. He revealed that his routine includes running a couple of times a week, and on competition day, he fuels up with a full English breakfast, a mid-competition hog roast bap, and a pint of beer.
Despite concerns about finding conkers due to hot weather this year, the committee confirmed a sufficient supply of large playing conkers for the event. Cross was crowned champion last year after defeating Mags Blake of Corby.
