World No 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right knee injury, he announced on Sunday. Sinner stated that after consulting with his doctors and team, he needed to pull out of the Masters 1000 tournament.
In a statement posted on the ATP website, Sinner said his right knee had been bothering him. Despite working hard with his medical team, he accepted he was not yet ready to compete.
This withdrawal follows Sinner also missing the Masters event in Montreal. The Cincinnati Open and Montreal Masters are the main warm-up tournaments before the US Open, which is scheduled to start in New York on 30 August.
