World number one Jannik Sinner has announced his withdrawal from this week's Cincinnati Open, citing a knee injury. The 24-year-old Italian, who secured his fifth Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon last month, has not competed since that victory.
Sinner stated, "After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati." He added that his right knee has been bothering him and despite working hard with his medical team, he is not yet ready to compete. He expressed disappointment but is now focused on preparing for the US Open.
The Cincinnati Open's main draw starts on 13 August, concluding on 23 August. Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev are among the players expected to participate. World number two Carlos Alcaraz, who won the 2025 event, will not be defending his title due to a wrist injury, having not played since the Barcelona Open in April. The US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, is scheduled from 30 August to 13 September in New York.
