Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken a light-hearted jab at upcoming opponents Southampton, referencing last season's 'Spygate' saga in a social media post. The Saints are set to visit the Racecourse Ground on Saturday for a Championship fixture.
The Hollywood duo appeared in a video on Wrexham's X account, with Reynolds emerging from behind a tree to discuss the importance of privacy. McElhenney added, "Specifically, how to prevent spies from seeing what you're doing." The skit, nominally promoting shirt sponsor Firefox, also name-checked Middlesbrough, Oxford, and Ipswich, clubs involved in similar incidents last season.
Southampton were removed from the play-off final and docked four points after an intern was found observing semi-final opponents Middlesbrough in training. Similar incidents were later found to have occurred at Oxford United and Ipswich Town.
Wrexham manager Parkinson stated his side's focus is on delivering a positive display against Southampton. He said, "We're the team which obviously were affected because we were seventh, but we accepted the EFL decision on that."
