Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have used a social media video to poke fun at upcoming opponents Southampton, referencing last season's 'Spygate' controversy. The playful jab comes ahead of Saints' visit to the Racecourse Ground for a Championship fixture this Saturday.
Southampton faced expulsion from a play-off final and a four-point deduction last season after an intern was reportedly caught watching semi-final opponents Middlesbrough during a training session. Similar incidents were also said to have occurred involving Oxford and Ipswich.
In a video posted on Wrexham's X account, Reynolds appears from behind a tree, mimicking photographs of the alleged Southampton spy. The clip, which promotes shirt sponsor Firefox, features Reynolds discussing the importance of privacy, with McElhenney adding comments about preventing spies. The co-owners also made pointed references to Middlesbrough, Oxford, and Ipswich.
Wrexham currently sits 19th in the standings after seven fixtures, while Southampton is ninth with 10 points, having overcome their penalty deduction.
