Wrexham defender Zak Vyner is gearing up for the club's highly anticipated pre-season tour in the United States. The Championship club will play three matches across the country, with Vyner eager to experience the fan culture first-hand and make an impression on tour.
Wrexham's previous two tours of America have attracted huge crowds due to their global profile under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as well as the success of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series. Vyner, who joined the club from Bristol City in January, has spoken to players from previous tours and is looking forward to seeing the amazing places they visit and the games they play.
'I'm ready to go, I feel good, I feel fit,' Vyner said. 'These tours, and pre-season in general, are for everyone to essentially give the manager a headache. I'm looking to do that and hopefully have some more games, get some more minutes, get myself fitter and just be ready for the season.'
The team will meet Leeds in Tampa on Sunday, 26 July, before facing Liverpool in New York four days later. Their final pre-season game is against Sunderland on Sunday, 2 August in Philadelphia. Vyner is looking to use the tour to get more game time and make a positive impression on the manager.
For Vyner, the tour is an opportunity to showcase his skills and get closer to the team. 'I feel now a lot closer to the lads and everyone's been great, but getting a lot closer naturally and getting to know each other's personalities, playing styles, everything, takes a bit of time,' he said.
