As Halloween approaches, writer Iman Amrani is reflecting on the evolving meaning of the celebration. She recalls childhood memories of making pumpkin pie and jack o'lanterns with her mother, and how Halloween later became an excuse for parties.
Now a mother to twin toddlers, Amrani is inclined to create a sense of magic around this time of year. She plans to take her children to a pumpkin patch to connect the season with harvest and nature, and intends to bake a pumpkin pie, possibly with her mother's help.
Amrani also shared her experience of attending a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) community event in Margate last year with her mother and twins. She found the cultural exchange to be fun and meaningful, highlighting opportunities for storytelling during such celebrations.
