A sweltering summer is set to grip the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) area, with a prolonged period of hot weather forecast to bring temperatures soaring to 32°C (90°F) by the end of the week. As a yellow heat health warning takes effect, residents are being urged to take immediate action to protect themselves from the scorching sun.
The Met Office's warning advises vulnerable groups – including the elderly, young children and those with pre-existing medical conditions – to stay cool and hydrated, while all residents are encouraged to follow simple safety tips. These include staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, wearing light, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.
The BCP Council has pledged support for vulnerable residents, distributing cooling packs and offering heatwave safety advice. The council's efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the hot weather on those most at risk, ensuring they receive the care and assistance needed to stay safe during this period.
