North-west Scotland is expected to experience gales and heavy rain on Wednesday due to a weather system containing the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind for parts of the Highlands and Western Isles, valid from 10:00 until 19:00 BST.
Within the warning area, widespread gusts of 50-60mph are likely, with exposed coasts and hills potentially seeing gusts of 70mph around midday. This could lead to moderate impacts including disruption to rail, air, and ferry transport, delays on roads and bridges, particularly for high-sided vehicles, and possible short-term power cuts.
Heavy rain is also forecast for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the heaviest rain expected in the north and west. However, much of England and Wales are anticipated to remain largely dry with spells of sunshine. A surge of warm air will also bring above-average temperatures across the country, with temperatures widely climbing into the mid to high-teens Celsius.
This warmth is expected to linger in many parts of England and Wales on Thursday, with temperatures potentially peaking at 22C in East Anglia. Cooler conditions will then spread southwards across the UK through Friday and over the weekend, bringing temperatures closer to the seasonal norm.
