York has been named the UK's best destination for an autumn escape, according to a new study by small-group tour company Rabbie's. The historic northern city achieved a score of 106 out of 120 in the analysis, which evaluated 30 destinations across the country.
The study considered four key factors: average autumn temperature, average number of rainy days, the number of parks, and the number of nearby walking trails up to 20km long. Data was collected from Tripadvisor, AllTrails, World Weather Online, and WeatherSpark.
York's appeal for autumn breaks is supported by its average daytime temperature of 14°C during the season, along with an average of seven rainy days. The city also offers 20 parks and 170 nearby walking trails, contributing to its top ranking.
Other cities in the top five included London in second place with 94 points, Edinburgh and Manchester tied for third with 93 points each, and Bath completing the list with 89 points.
