Yorkshire Wildlife Park closed after fatal tiger attack

Yorkshire Wildlife Park remains closed after a man entered a tiger enclosure and was fatally attacked on Saturday.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is closed after a man climbed into a tiger enclosure and was fatally attacked on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

Police and the ambulance service were called to the park at approximately 13:30 BST after reports of a man climbing into the enclosure from a walkway. An eyewitness described seeing the man wearing headphones and "pacing around" near the enclosure before he entered and was attacked. Police confirmed the man died at the scene.

A park spokesperson stated their "thoughts and heartfelt sympathies" are with the man's family. They also confirmed that the Amur tiger, named Altai, remained in the enclosure and would not be euthanised as a result of the incident. Staff who were at the scene would receive specialist support.

South Yorkshire Police are supporting the man's family and have urged the public not to share videos of the incident circulating online. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and MP Lee Pitcher both expressed their sadness and thanked the emergency services for their response.
