Manchester United's highly-rated 15-year-old striker JJ Gabriel is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club. Gabriel has sent a formal notice indicating his desire to cancel his registration with immediate effect, a request United can challenge.
The young forward, who does not turn 16 until 6 October, was named both the Premier League Under-18 player of the year and United's Under-18 player of the year last season. He made his senior debut for United in a pre-season game against Atletico Madrid last month and scored a hat-trick on his Uefa Youth League debut last week.
Gabriel had been expected to make his competitive debut in Wednesday night's Carabao Cup tie against Brighton. However, he reportedly did not train with Michael Carrick's squad at the end of last week amid unspecified issues in the relationship between the player's family and the club. United sources have expressed uncertainty about what led to the situation, but the club has not yet given up hope of resolving it, as Gabriel has a contract running until the end of the season.
