Amazon-owned Zoox has extended its commercial robotaxi service in Las Vegas to include rides to and from Harry Reid International Airport. Customers can now hail rides to the airport, with pick-up and drop-off available at both airport terminals near baggage claim.
This expansion follows a temporary exemption from federal safety regulators in August, which allows Zoox to deploy up to 2,500 vehicles for two years. The company began charging for its robotaxi rides on August 10.
Zoox is currently the only robotaxi company operating a service to the Las Vegas airport. However, other companies, including Tesla, Uber, and Waymo, received permits last month from the Nevada Transportation Authority to operate commercial robotaxi services in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located. These permits could allow up to 8,000 robotaxis to be deployed across the county over the next 12 months.
