Mark Zuckerberg has faced questions after his 387ft superyacht reportedly declined to assist a stranded skiff in south-east Alaska last week. The yacht, named Launchpad and reportedly valued at $300m, was said to have "repeatedly" declined to help when a nearby boat called for assistance.
A small cruise ship, the UnCruise Adventures ship Wilderness Legacy, ultimately rescued the 21ft skiff and its crew after it ran out of fuel between Petersburg and Juneau. A passenger on the Wilderness Legacy posted on Bluesky that their boat rescued the vessel after the Coast Guard reportedly radioed Zuckerberg's yacht, which was closer, and it refused to respond.
Brian Baker, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, told Forbes that the couple were not on board Launchpad at the time. Baker also stated that the yacht crew had been operating on a different radio channel and that "the assist was already under way" by the time they reviewed the broadcast.
