Gwent Police have confirmed that 11 Nissan Jukes were stolen in Caerphilly county last Thursday and Friday. All 11 vehicles have since been recovered, alongside a Kia Niro and a Nissan Navara that were also reported stolen. No arrests have been made in connection with these thefts.
Security expert Michael Fraser stated that Nissan Jukes are frequently targeted due to their "valuable spare parts" and because they are "relatively easy to steal." Figures from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) indicate that the Nissan Juke Tekna is the most stolen car in the UK so far in 2026.
Many 2010 to 2019 Nissan Juke models use keyless-entry systems, which thieves can exploit using signal-relay devices to steal cars from outside homes. Fraser, an ex-burglar, advises drivers to keep keys in a Faraday pouch and away from front doors, as signals can be easily picked up, even through glass.
To deter thieves, Fraser suggested driving onto a driveway rather than reversing, and parking with wheels turned into the gutter if on the street. He also recommended using security devices such as steering locks. Motoring journalist Claire Evans noted that newer Nissan Juke models are "less likely" to be stolen via relay units due to keyfobs that stop emitting codes when inactive.
Gwent Police officers are conducting patrols across the borough and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify those responsible for the thefts.
