San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has received a six-game suspension and a $500,000 fine from the NFL. The league announced the penalties on Friday, citing a violation of its personal conduct policy following York's arrest in a prostitution sting in Ohio earlier this year.
York was arrested in August at a mobile home park by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. Police stated he was attempting to pay $160 for sex with a woman he believed to be a prostitute. He was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, but this was later amended to disorderly conduct. York pleaded no contest to this charge, as well as to possessing criminal tools for using his phone in response to an online prostitution advertisement.
For these offenses, York was sentenced to one day in jail, served concurrently, and was credited with one day served upon his plea. He also incurred a fine of $1,150 and completed an online course. The $160 seized from York was subsequently given to the human trafficking task force.
York has not attended any games or league meetings this season and has been credited with three games served towards his suspension. He is eligible to return on 20 October, following the 49ers' game against Washington the previous night.
