Mason Crane Returns to England Squad After Eight-Year Absence

Leg-spinner Mason Crane has been called into England's ODI tri-series squad for the upcoming matches in Pakistan, marking his first international appearance in eight years.

  • Mason Crane's last England appearance was in the 2018 Ashes.
  • Jos Buttler is out with a hamstring injury, and Jofra Archer is rested.
  • Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad after injuries.

Mason Crane, the Glamorgan leg-spinner, has been named in England's One Day International (ODI) squad for the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This call-up marks his return to the international stage eight years after his last appearance in the fifth Test of the 2018 Ashes in Sydney.

The upcoming tri-series, starting on 18 October, will see England play two matches against each side in Pakistan, culminating in the final on 31 October in Lahore. England selector Marcus North highlighted Crane's consistent performance for Glamorgan, stating he "thoroughly deserves another opportunity at international level."

Captain Jos Buttler will miss the series due to a hamstring injury sustained during the recent home series against Sri Lanka, while Jofra Archer is being rested to manage his workload. However, Adil Rashid is fit again after a hand injury, and Sam Curran returns from a groin injury. Sussex players James Coles and Henry Crocombe are also included in the squad, which will be captained by Harry Brook.
