One of Wales' leading contemporary artists, Kevin Sinnott, has died at the age of 78. Born in Sarn, Bridgend county, to Irish parents, Sinnott rose to fame for his painting 'Running Away with the Hairdresser'.
This well-known work, depicting two figures running along a terraced street, is held at the National Museum in Cardiff. Museum Wales described Sinnott as one of Wales' most acclaimed painters, with his art featured in major collections both in the UK and internationally.
Sinnott, who trained at the Royal College of Art in London, achieved significant success in the 1980s with exhibitions in prominent galleries in London and the United States. His work was acquired by institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the British Museum. He continued painting at his home in the Garw Valley until his death.
Celf Gallery in Cardiff, in a social media post, noted that Sinnott's "love and zest for life played out in his exuberant and colourful paintings." The gallery also confirmed that an exhibition of his work, scheduled for September, will still go ahead as a tribute and celebration of his life and work.
