Former Wales prop Adam Jones, a three-times Grand Slam champion and British and Irish Lions series winner, will undertake the Cardiff half-marathon on Sunday, 4 October. The 45-year-old Harlequins scrum coach has lost over five stone (32kg) in preparation for what he describes as one of the most significant physical tests of his life.
Jones was inspired to make a change after seeing an image of himself in 2025, when he weighed 24st 7lb (156kg) while part of the Wales coaching staff. He has since reduced his weight to 19st 7lb (124kg), close to his ideal playing weight.
His training began with a "couch to 5k" programme, and he has since completed a 17km training run, his longest ever. Jones is running to raise money for two charities, St David's Hospice Care and Prostate Cymru. He aims to complete the race, with a personal target of finishing under two hours and 30 minutes, which would result in a doubled sponsorship from Harlequins player Cadan Murley.
