AI data-labeling startup Micro1 has achieved a gross annual run rate of $500 million, up from $100 million in the last eight months. This growth is attributed to the increasing demand for unique AI training data from major labs and corporations.
The four-year-old company retains approximately 60% to 70% of its gross run rate, placing its net annual run rate between $150 million and $200 million. Micro1's founder, Ali Ansari, stated last month on X that the startup does not sell its data to Chinese model makers, distinguishing itself from some competitors.
Micro1 is also expanding into generating synthetic data without human involvement and selling some datasets to multiple customers, which can lead to gross margins as high as 80% to 90% for this "off-the-shelf" data.
