Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is poised to make his highly anticipated return to the court at the US Open, following a four-month hiatus due to a wrist injury. The 23-year-old Spaniard's comeback was confirmed through a joint Instagram post with football influencer Fabrizio Romano, with Alcaraz also posting "here we go!" on X.
Alcaraz has not played a competitive match since 14 April, when he sustained a right wrist injury at the Barcelona Open. This injury led to him missing the majority of the clay-court swing and the entire grass season. He made a cautious return to training in July and was photographed hitting on 4 August, though he later withdrew from the Cincinnati Open.
Earlier this year, Alcaraz triumphed at the Australian Open in January, beating Novak Djokovic to become the youngest man to win all four Grand Slam titles. He has since been replaced as world number two by Alexander Zverev, while Jannik Sinner currently holds the top spot in the world rankings.
The US Open singles event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 30 August, in New York.
