Carlos Alcaraz, the world number two, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open as he continues his recovery from a wrist injury. The 23-year-old Spaniard has not competed since April when he pulled out of the Barcelona Open.
This ongoing injury meant Alcaraz missed Wimbledon and the opportunity to defend his French Open title. He was scheduled to return at the Cincinnati Open, which begins on 11 August, as part of his preparations for the US Open defence, set to start on 30 August.
Tournament director Bob Moran stated, "We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible." Moran added, "We wish him the best with his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future."
