Jack Draper was in tears during his first-round comeback defeat at the Canadian Open, losing to Térence Atmane with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in Montreal. This marked the Briton's first competitive appearance since withdrawing from Wimbledon due to a recurrence of a bruised bone in his left arm.
The 24-year-old was visibly upset during a third-set changeover, and his serve speed reportedly dropped significantly. He appeared concerned about his left arm during the match.
Draper has a wildcard entry for the Cincinnati Open, which begins next week. However, doubts may arise about his participation following this defeat, as well as his fitness for the US Open. He had also pulled out of the DC Open in Washington last week.
Draper reached a career-high ranking of No 4 in the world last summer but has since been affected by injuries, spending a significant portion of the past year on the sidelines.
