Alex Albon has committed to staying with the Williams Formula 1 team for the 2027 season, signing a one-year contract extension. The Britain-born Thai driver has been with Williams since 2022, making him the longest-serving driver in the team's history.
Albon had been considering his future following a decline in Williams' performance this season, which contrasts with their fifth-place finish in the 2025 championship. The team is currently ninth in the championship after 11 races.
The 30-year-old driver stated, "One tough year doesn't tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things." Williams team principal James Vowles added, "Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve."
Albon's decision reportedly reflects a lack of available drives with top teams, leaving options primarily with other midfield teams. The one-year deal provides him with flexibility should the 2027 season not bring the anticipated improvements for Williams.
