Alexander Isak is braced for a challenging return to St James' Park this Sunday as Liverpool travel to face Newcastle. This will be the striker's first match back at his former club since his £125m move to Merseyside last summer.
Isak's departure from Newcastle followed a period of 'unilateral industrial action' and a public Instagram message on 19 August last year, where he accused the club of breaking pledges to sell him. He posted, "When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue."
The match will see Isak play under new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola, following the departure of Arne Slot. Newcastle also have a new head coach in Matthias Jaissle, who replaced Eddie Howe.
Isak, who scored 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, including the decisive goal in their 2025 Carabao Cup final triumph, is returning to a significantly altered club environment.
