Experimental Québécois duo Angine de Poitrine debuted in New York on Wednesday, performing a sold-out show at Le Poisson Rouge. The performance featured an update to their distinctive costumes: new masks that illuminate in bright yellow during key moments.
The band, known for their microtonal, odd-metered rock and oversized papier-mache masks, played the first of two sold-out shows at the 700-capacity venue. Both performances had been sold out for months, following a viral video of the band playing in a French studio on KEXP's YouTube channel, which is nearing 20 million views.
During the show, guitarist/bassist Khn broke a string on a custom two-necked guitar/bass. A guitar technician assisted with the replacement while Khn and drummer Klek continued an impromptu jam.
