Apple has proposed new commission rates for purchases made using external links within apps on its iOS devices. The proposal, submitted to the U.S. District Court of Northern California on Thursday, suggests a 15% commission for standard apps.
Under the proposed structure, small business developers would pay a 5% commission. Developers in the Video Partner Program, News Partner Program, and Mini Apps Partner Program, along with subscription renewals, would face a 10% commission.
This submission follows the Supreme Court's rejection of Apple's bid to pause further action in a lower court case. Apple has been involved in a legal dispute with Epic Games regarding its App Store commission policies.
Apple states that these fees are intended to recoup investments in the tools, technology, and services supporting its App Store and software. The company also noted that Google Play charges similar link-out rates, which Epic Games had reportedly agreed to.
