Apple has unveiled HomeView, a new smart home hub, priced at $299. The device, which resembles a cuboid HomePod with a display, is designed to serve as a central control point for smart home devices, facilitate FaceTime calls, play music and videos, and display photo slideshows.
The HomeView comes in two versions: one for countertops and another for wall mounting. It measures 7 inches wide, features a single FaceTime camera on the front, and has built-in microphones and speakers. Preloaded apps include Calendar, Messages, Photos, FaceTime, Notes, Reminders, Music, and Podcasts.
A key feature of HomeView is its updated Siri AI assistant, which can recognise individual household members. Upon identification, the screen automatically adjusts to show personalised information such as messages, contacts, calendar appointments, and preferred apps for that person.
Pre-orders for the HomeView begin today, and the device will be available for purchase from November 13. It will be offered in four colours: silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray.
