Apple Watch Series 12 adds Siri Recap meeting notetaker

Apple has introduced Siri Recap for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which uses ambient listening to generate summaries and key points of conversations. The feature is part of a broader set of audio intelligence tools announced on Wednesday.

  • Siri Recap uses ambient listening to create high-level notes, with Apple Intelligence generating a title, summary, and key points.
  • Users can keep the feature always on, schedule it, or turn it off completely.
  • Apple says the features do not store recordings and raw audio is inaccessible, but privacy concerns remain.

Apple has launched a meeting notetaker for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, called Siri Recap. The feature uses ambient listening to take high-level notes of conversations, with Apple Intelligence automatically generating a title, summary, and key points that can be reviewed in the Siri app.

Users can choose to keep Siri Recap always on, set up a schedule, or turn it off completely. The notetaker was introduced alongside other audio intelligence features, including Shazam for instant song identification and Live Rewind, which lets users recap 15 seconds of conversation by double-pressing the digital crown. The Watch can also recognise loud sounds such as sirens, alarms, doorbells, or a baby crying and notify users.

Apple emphasised that the features do not store recordings and that raw audio is inaccessible. Siri Recap does not identify speakers, and Live Rewind recaps are end-to-end encrypted. Despite these guardrails, an always-listening feature will likely raise privacy concerns because Siri Recap may still capture sensitive information in its summaries.

Why this matters: The introduction of an always-listening feature on a widely worn device raises potential privacy concerns, even with Apple's stated safeguards.

What this means for you: If you own an Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4, you can choose to enable, schedule, or disable Siri Recap, and you should be aware that summaries may include sensitive information.
