Legal AI startup Harvey has announced it has raised another $550 million in funding, achieving a $15.5 billion valuation. This funding round was co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

The latest capital infusion follows a $200 million funding round in March, which valued the company at $11 billion. Harvey's valuation has nearly doubled in about nine months, with the company having raised over $1.55 billion in total.

A few weeks prior to this announcement, Harvey introduced its first in-house model, Harvey Tenet. This model was built from the open-weight model Kimi K3 and post-trained using legal data with assistance from inference provider Fireworks.

Why this matters: Harvey is becoming an example of how the legal industry can utilise AI without relying on proprietary frontier AI labs.
