Arsenal Tipped to Defend Premier League Title by Pundits and Algorithms

A significant majority of BBC Sport pundits, along with AI and Opta's 'supercomputer', predict Arsenal will successfully defend their Premier League crown in the 2026-27 season.

  • 89% of 28 BBC Sport pundits believe Arsenal will win the 2026-27 Premier League title.
  • AI and Opta's 'supercomputer' also predict Arsenal as champions.
  • Arsenal finished seven points clear of Manchester City last season, ending a 22-year wait for the title.

Arsenal are widely tipped to defend their Premier League title in the 2026-27 season, according to a survey of BBC Sport pundits, AI, and Opta's 'supercomputer'. The Gunners, who ended a 22-year wait for the championship last season by finishing seven points ahead of Manchester City, are seen as the team to beat.

Out of 28 BBC TV and radio pundits, 89% predict Arsenal will successfully retain their crown, with no pundit forecasting them to finish lower than second. The AI prediction, generated using Microsoft Copilot Chat, and Opta's 'supercomputer', which simulated 380 Premier League games 10,000 times, both reached the same conclusion as three of the pundits.

Pundits highlighted Arsenal's continuity under manager Mikel Arteta, their strengthened squad with additions like Bruno Guimaraes, and the momentum from their 85-point title-winning season as key factors. The predictions were made based on the current squad compositions as of Thursday, 20 August, with 13 days remaining until the transfer window closes on 1 September.
