Manchester United are reportedly close to securing the signing of Brighton and Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba. The transfer is anticipated to be valued at approximately £70m.
Baleba, 22, joined Brighton in a £23m transfer after being signed by Lille on his 18th birthday. His performances in his second season at Brighton reportedly sparked United's interest.
Last summer, United were prepared to pay up to £70m for Baleba, but Brighton sought over £100m, aligning his price with Moises Caicedo's £115m transfer to Chelsea. A deal did not materialise at that time.
Baleba's qualities include high rankings among Premier League players for ball recoveries and interceptions, along with an ability to cover significant ground. He is also noted for his skill on the ball, honed from playing as a winger in youth football.
The potential acquisition of Baleba could see him blend with Youri Tielemans, who United signed earlier this summer from Aston Villa. Tielemans is described as a penetrative passer and a careful reader of play, offering complementary characteristics to Baleba's style.
