Billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman has criticised the US Open tennis Grand Slam organisers regarding ticket prices. Ackman stated on social media that a day one ground pass for the tournament costs $363, which is equivalent to £268.
This ground pass does not grant access to the show courts, where tickets are priced even higher. In comparison, an equivalent ground pass for Wimbledon costs £33.
Ackman highlighted that the US Open is owned by the USTA, a non-profit organisation, and questioned how a $363 ground pass aligns with the USTA's mission to promote the sport of tennis. He also noted that ground passes at Flushing Meadows can be resold at marked-up prices, unlike Wimbledon, which uses a queue system to prevent ticket reselling.
