Arthur Fery Exits US Open in First Round After Straight-Sets Defeat

British number one Arthur Fery's US Open debut concluded with a first-round defeat to Lorenzo Musetti, losing 6-3 6-3 7-5.

  • Arthur Fery, the British number one, lost in straight sets to Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti.
  • The defeat marks Fery's exit in the first round of his US Open debut.
  • Fery had previously reached the Wimbledon semi-finals and his first ATP final in North Carolina this summer.

Arthur Fery's journey at the US Open came to an end in the first round, as the British number one suffered a straight-sets defeat to Lorenzo Musetti. The 24-year-old, who had a memorable run to the Wimbledon semi-finals earlier this summer, lost 6-3 6-3 7-5 on Grandstand Stadium.

Fery, who recently reached his first ATP final in North Carolina, faced Italian 13th seed Musetti. Despite being close to a seeding at Flushing Meadows, which would have helped him avoid a top player in the early stages, Fery was unable to overcome his opponent.

The match saw Fery squander four break points in the second set and, despite securing a break in the third, he ultimately succumbed to Musetti. His exertions at the Winston-Salem Open last week may have contributed to a perceived lack of energy in the third set.
