Aston Villa have bolstered their squad with the confirmed signings of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and left-back Matteo Ruggeri. The double deal sees the club spend approximately £47m to bring in the two players.
Japan international Suzuki, 23, arrives at Villa Park from Italian side Parma in a deal reported to be around £30m. Villa reportedly view Suzuki as their long-term number one. He made 59 appearances for Parma over two years.
Italian full-back Ruggeri, 24, joins from La Liga side Atletico Madrid for £17m. Ruggeri, who won the Europa League with Atalanta in 2024, is expected to replace Lucas Digne, who moved to Paris St-Germain on 9 August. Both new signings could feature in Villa's Premier League opener at Brighton on Sunday.
The arrival of Suzuki comes despite Emi Martinez's potential move to Juventus collapsing over the weekend due to an inability to agree a fee between the clubs.
