Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Nicolas Jackson in a deal valued at up to £65m. This move comes as Ollie Watkins looks set to transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, bringing an end to his six-year tenure at Villa Park.
Jackson, 25, arrives as Villa's new record signing, surpassing Johan Manzambi. He is one of several new additions to the squad, which has seen significant changes this summer with key players like Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne having already left.
The Senegal international, who previously played under Villa manager Unai Emery at Villarreal, will provide a specialist striker option. Emery worked with Jackson for 27 appearances, during which the forward scored three goals and provided three assists.
Statistical analysis suggests Jackson offers a different profile to Watkins. He averaged more touches, shots, and passes per 90 minutes last season, indicating a more involved role in attacking build-up. Jackson also demonstrated greater intensity without the ball, winning possession more frequently in the final third.
