Aston Villa will make history on Friday evening as they become the first English club to compete for the Antonio Puerta Trophy. The team will face Sevilla at their Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium in a friendly match.
The trophy, now in its 15th edition, honours Antonio Puerta, a Sevilla academy graduate who died in August 2007 at the age of 22 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a La Liga match. Puerta made 88 appearances for Sevilla and helped them win five trophies, including two Uefa Cups.
The fixture marks a return to familiar ground for Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, who managed Sevilla between 2013 and 2016, securing three consecutive Europa League titles. Sevilla have won 12 of the previous 14 editions of the trophy.
Villa's Leon Goretzka, who has travelled to Sevilla after a knee injury, could be available to play. Striker Brian Madjo is also available after being out since August, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis is expected to get more minutes.
