World and Olympic pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis has announced he will skip the entire 2027 indoor season. This decision includes missing the European Indoor Championships in Valencia.
The 26-year-old Swede stated his intention to focus on recovery and preparation for the upcoming outdoor campaign. Duplantis explained that he is making this choice to give his body the necessary rest after a demanding year, allowing him to perform at his peak upon his return to competition.
Duplantis withdrew from the Diamond League final in Brussels last month as a precaution due to recurring leg tightness. However, he returned to win the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest a week later with a 6.20-metre clearance. He improved his world record to 6.31 metres in March and also secured gold at the European Championships in August.
His focus will now be on training well and preparing for the 2027 outdoor season, which is scheduled to run from early May to the World Championships in mid-September.
