The re-released version of Marvel's Avengers: Endgame, titled Avengers Endgame: Encore, has become the highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office. By last weekend, the re-release had added $126m worldwide, bringing its total lifetime gross to approximately $2.925bn, just ahead of Avatar's $2.923bn.
The Encore version includes four new scenes, with one appearing at the end of the film and three more during and after its credits. These snippets are intended to lead viewers into the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
One new scene shows Loki interrupting Steve Rogers' retirement, while another mid-credits scene features Bruce Banner being confronted by the voice of Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom. A second mid-credits scene depicts the Time Variance Authority watching as thousands of universes, including the X-Men's reality, collide and vanish. The final scene reworks Tony Stark's original farewell, ending with an ominous shot of Doctor Doom's mask.
