Train passengers are advised to check their journeys ahead of travel over the August bank holiday weekend due to planned engineering works and strike action affecting several routes.
On Sunday, 30 August, there will be no train services between Peterborough and London King’s Cross. This is to allow for the installation of new signalling technology as part of a wider East Coast Main Line project. Passengers can use a limited number of LNER services via Bedford to London St Pancras, or rail replacement buses.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) will operate a significantly reduced timetable to and from London on Sunday, 30 August and Monday, 31 August, due to a walkout by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT). EMR advises that trains between Sheffield, Nottingham, and King’s Cross are likely to be extremely busy.
Further disruptions include no trains between Stafford and Wolverhampton on 30 August due to overhead power supply improvements, with rail replacement buses available. Buses will also replace trains between Wrexham and Bidston until Sunday, 30 August, and between Wrexham and Shrewsbury until Sunday, 30 August. Additionally, buses are replacing trains between Leeds, York, and Selby across the entire bank holiday weekend due to ongoing upgrade work.
From Saturday, 29 August until 14 September, there will be no trains between Dumfries and Barrhead, or between Kilmarnock and Ayr, due to track improvement work.
